Bali travel guide
Bali is South-East Asia's most popular destination for travellers looking for a mix of beaches, culture, nature and good value on longer stays.
Best time to visit
April-October is the dry season and the best time to visit; from November to March the climate is more humid with frequent afternoon rain.
What to see and do
- Ubud β terraced rice fields, the Monkey Forest, and the island's arts and yoga hub.
- Uluwatu Temple β perched on a cliff, spectacular at sunset with the Kecak fire dance performance.
- Seminyak and Canggu beaches β the busiest areas for surfing, beach clubs and nightlife.
- Tegenungan and Sekumpul waterfalls β among the most accessible and scenic on the island.
- Tanah Lot Temple β one of the most iconic temples, built on a rock just offshore.
Indicative budget
Budget roughly β¬35-60 per day per person for food, accommodation and local transport, flights excluded β one of the best-value long-haul destinations, though intercontinental flights weigh heavily on the total budget.
Figures are purely indicative and do not represent real or guaranteed prices.
Getting around
Public transport in Bali is limited: most visitors get around with a private driver booked by the day or by route (affordable and efficient), or rent a scooter if they feel confident in the local traffic. Distances between areas (Ubud, Seminyak, Uluwatu) are greater than they look on the map because of traffic.
Where to stay
Ubud is the pick for nature, yoga and a calmer atmosphere away from the coast; Seminyak and Canggu concentrate beach clubs, restaurants and nightlife; Uluwatu is ideal for surfing and clifftop views; Nusa Dua is great for quiet resorts and protected beaches, also a good fit for families.
